Ways To Look Better In Outlooks When Taking A Selfie

The holidays are a magical time of year for a million reasons: there is an undeniable excitement in the air, people are filled with more joy and love, and the streets are filled with twinkling lights and flurries of snow. Even our usually mundane morning commute feels more exciting due to the addition of holiday music and mocha creme de menthe to our coffee.

But one of the unavoidable parts of the holiday season that isn’t always so magical is the excess of photo-taking that comes with it. Who wants to be documented after carb-loading and drinking three glasses of jingle juice? I do not. But thankfully, there are a few TikTok tricks you can use to make sure you always look your best in photos this season.

Keep An Open Space Above Your Head

Especially during the hustle and bustle of this season, you’re probably trying to snap a quick photo before rushing to a holiday party, but slow down to see what you’re really getting in the photo. Often, we focus more on how we look and less on what the photo itself looks like, but that can compromise the quality of the photo as a whole. One thing to remember? Keep the ground out of your photo.

Change The Camera Perspective

Are you still taking photos directly? This is your cue to change the camera’s perspective. Make sure you’re still in the front of the photo, but have your photographer (IG hubby, best friend, or mom) move to the side instead of directly in front of you. This will instantly change the dynamics of the photo, creating more depth and increasing visual interest.

Position Your Body Along The X axis

Trust us, this tip is much more useful than the x and y axes we used in algebra class. If you’re ever unsure of what to do in a photo and feel awkward just standing there, remembering to align your body along the x-axis will instantly relax you. This is an especially good tip for shorter girls because it will lengthen your legs, arms, and torso.

Add Movement and Personality

One of our favorite tricks is to move while perching. Sometimes middle shots that involve movement turn out better than highly posed ones that just involve a smile. Plus, this gives you a chance to show off your personality and have fun with it! Dance, laugh, be yourself and be confident. Your photos will be natural and totally yours.

Take A Photo From A High Angle

This angle will make your photos more striking and flatters anyone seated. If your mom likes to take terrible photos of you and your siblings opening presents on the floor on Christmas morning, tell her to take the photos from a high angle this year.
